The role of Thammasat University and the Faculty of Law in dealing with the new wave of COVID-19

Although 2021 is here, it seems that the COVID-19 pandemic will not leave us easily, as we are in the midst of a steady increase in the number of COVID-19 cases. Aside from the importance of keeping morale high and giving encouragement, preparation, coordination and strict implementation of the various protective measures are important factors that will allow Thai society to be able to survive the COVID-19 crisis at this time.

The year 2021 marks once again an instance of Thammasat University and the Faculty of Law quickly preparing for the new wave of COVID-19 outbreaks, for the safety of students, lecturers and staff at the university. At the same time, we can provide educational services as before, uninterrupted.

The Alumni Relations Team would like to summarize the measures to tackle the new COVID-19 outbreak of Thammasat University and Faculty of Law as follows:

Thammasat University

Thammasat Field Hospital, which was adapted from the DLUX Dormitory in Thammasat University, Rangsit Centre, returned to service again on 11 January 2021 to accommodate COVID-19 patients transferred from hospital for convalescence.

Online teaching in Semester 2/2020: bringing innovative technology to be used in the management of teaching and learning, to facilitate students in studying, no matter where they are, until the end of
the semester.

Thammasat University Library is providing a lending service to students, with 800 iPads for online learning in Semester 2/2020. Details of the service can be found on the following Facebook page: Thammasat University Library

TULIB Delivery, a book mailing service to the homes of students, teachers, and university personnel, helps to improve skills and knowledge through reading books. It also alleviates fatigue from studying and working on computer screens and smartphones.

Faculty of Law

Every session of online teaching has a video recording which will be disseminated for students to watch and review later, to address technical problems from systems or equipment used in studying online.

The Faculty of Law has made available 90 laptop computers for students to borrow for online studying and assessment, and other work as part of their studies during the new wave of the COVID-19

The TU Pandemic Legal Aid Centre assists those affected by the COVID-19 pandemic by providing free online legal counsel Questions or problems can be submitted through the Facebook page

There is a policy of providing financial assistance by reducing tuition fees for all undergraduates.
Money will be also be provided as an emergency fund to help with living expenses for undergraduates. Assistance for tuition fees will also be provided by way of scholarships for master's degree students, and support will also be given through reductions in document printing fees for all students. From another perspective, the COVID-19 crisis is a factor accelerating Technology Convergence in education, catering to changing global needs and helping open the way to create new growth opportunities for future education. No matter how severe the crisis and regardless of the challenges we face, Thammasat University and the Faculty of Law are always ready to face and adapt to the changes, to help people and society according to the resolution of Thammasat University, the “University for the People”.
